ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University women's volleyball team ended a spectacular season with a 3-0 sweep over Oswego State but fell in five sets to SUNY Polytechnic on Saturday in the Terry S. Galanis Family Arena.

The
Saxons (12-17, 3-5 Empire 8) got things started with a 28-26, 25-16 and 25-23 win over the Lakers. The nightcap was a back-and-forth struggle between the Wildcats of SUNY Poly and the Saxons. SUNY Poly won the first, third and fifth sets. The Saxons managed to earn wins in the second and fourth sets but loss 19-25, 25-21, 23-25, 25-21 and 8-15 in the end.

Junior captain
Heather D'Andrea (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst Prep) led the Saxons with 14.0 points in the first match of the day. She totaled 10 kills and added three aces and two block assists. First year
Amber Smith (Penfield, NY/Webster Schroeder) managed 13.5 points from 11 kills and a match-high five block assists.

D'Andrea also led the Saxons in digs with 12, making this her 12th match of the season with double-digits in digs and kills. She went on to tally 11 kills and 16 digs against SUNY Poly for her 13th match double-double. D'Andrea totaled 13.5 points against the Wildcats by adding two aces and one block assist on the evening.

Smith led Alfred University in the second match with 25.0 points. And although the points were a career best (having scored back-to-back 25.5 outings against Wells College and SUNY Cortland on the same day earlier in the season), she broke her career-best in kills with 23, previously being 21. She added 12 digs, making this her 15th match with a double-double and her 21st of 10 or more kills in a match.

Aubrey Totsline (Fairport, NY/Fairport) had 22 assists against Oswego and tallied 44 in the later match.

Saturday's matches marked the final outings for seniors
Mary Lou Patnaude (Burnt Hills, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) and
Valerie Cardillo (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder).
