ALFRED, NY – Maleke Fuentes (Olean, NY/Olean), a junior tailback on the Alfred University football team, has earned weekly honors from the Empire 8 Conference.

The conference named Fuentes Offensive Player of the Week for his play in Saturday's 41-28 Empire 8 win over visiting SUNY Cortland. Fuentes rushed for 155 yards on just 15 carries, averaging 10.3 yards per attempt. His 65-yard run on the Saxons' second drive of the game led to a field goal, and his nine-yard touchdown run with just over six minutes left in the second quarter put the Saxons up 10-0. Six of Fuentes' 15 rushing attempts gained at least 11 yards, with each producing a first down.

With Saturday's victory, the Saxons improved to 6-0 overall and 4-0 in the Empire 8. AU, ranked 17^th and 21^st, respectively, in the D3football.com and American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Top 25 national polls, travels to Oneonta, NY, Saturday, Oct. 22 to take on Empire 8 rival Hartwick College. Kickoff is at 1 p.m.
