Volleyball Reaches 10 Wins On The Season With Split On Day One Of Alfred Tourney

ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University women's volleyball team split its two-match evening at Alfred State College during the first day of the Alfred Tournament on Friday evening.
 
The Saxons (10-13, 3-3 Empire 8) defeated Hilbert College in three sets but fell to Morrisville State in three. They topped Hilbert with scores of 25-21, 25-20 and 25-19 and were close to the Mustangs, falling 23-25, 23-25 and 22-25. This is the first season since 2011 that Alfred University has won 10 matches, having finished that season 10-17 and 1-6 in Empire 8 action.
 
The Saxons scoring was led by first year Amber Smith (Penfield, NY/Webster Schroeder) with 15.0 points off of a match-high 14 kills and added one ace.
 
Junior Aubrey Totsline (Fairport, NY/Fairport) had a match-best 27 set assists in the win.
 
The Saxons will next host the second part of the Alfred Volleyball Tournament on Saturday in the Terry S. Galanis Family Arena.
