ELMIRA, NY—The Alfred University men's basketball team (7-9, E8 3-4) fell to Elmira College 76-72 Thursday evening on the road despite junior
Julian Reinhart (Hornell, NY/Hornell) surpassing his career-best in scoring with 26 points.
Reinharts previous career night occurred over a year ago against Valley Forge (12/5/14) where the junior guard scored 20 points. Junior
Eric Adams (Lebanon, NJ/Hunterdon Central) chimed in with his fifth double-double of the year with 15 points and 10 rebounds. It was Adams' seventh game with 10 or more rebounds in 2015-2016.
The Soaring Eagles (3-14, E8 1-7) were led by Justin Porrett with 21 points and seven rebounds.
AU struggled from the field in the first half shooting only 11-of-33 (33.3%) and 0-for-7 from three-point range. Elmira shot 13-of-30 (43.3%) in the first half, hitting 7-of-15 (46.7%) of their deep balls. The Soaring Eagles held a 35-26 lead heading into the break.
The Saxons rebounded and shot an even 50% (18-of-36) overall in the second half and outscored Elmira 46-41. However, the hot shooting was not enough to overcome the half time deficit as AU fell to the Soaring Eagles 76-72.
Elmira held onto the lead by shooting 10-for-10 from the charity stripe over the last 2:06 of play. The Saxons would answer with a basket, only to have the Soaring Eagles make their free throws.
AU looks to get back on track in the Empire 8 on Saturday at home against Houghton College at 2PM.
