CANTON, NY—Senior
Kaitlyn Button (Cazenovia, NY/Cazenovia) netted a hat trick in a 15-6 loss to the SUNY Canton Kangaroos on the road Thursday evening.
Freshman
Miranda Gilbert (Watertown, NY/Watertown) scored twice for the Saxons while contributing two assists. Sophomore
Rachel Ball (Corfu, NY/Pembroke) rattled the cage for one goal.
AU scored twice in the opening half against the Kangaroos, breaking up a five-goal run to open the game. Button and Gilbert notched their 25
th and 12
th goals, respectively, on the season.
In the second half Canton opened with another five-goal run before Button and Gilbert broke up the run again. Button would capitalize five minutes later to grab the hat trick. Ball scored with 26 seconds to go in the game.
Sophomore
Leah Ellithorpe (Camillus, NY/West Genesee) paced the Saxons with five groundballs in the contest. Sophomore
Dana Ganley (Syracuse, NY/Westhill) pitched in with three groundballs. Ellithorpe and Button had two caused turnovers, each, to set the standard for AU. Button collected a team-high five draw controls.
Freshman goalie
Shannon Gray (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) had 18 saves in sixty minutes of work.
AU (2-8, E8 0-5) returns to action Sat. April 18, at home against Empire 8 opponent Stevens at 1PM.
