Box ScoreREADING, PA – The Alfred University men's basketball team fell on the final day of the Crowne Plaza Holiday Tournament hosted by Albright College to Johns Hopkins, 69-77 Wednesday afternoon.
Junior guard
Tyler Seelman (Lorton, VA/Hayfield Secondary) led the Saxons (4-5, 0-0 Empire 8) in scoring with 23 points, hitting 5-of-7 from three-point range, adding another four field goals and was perfect from the free throw line, going 2-for-2. He also pulled in four rebounds and had a game-high three steals. Sophomore guard
Nick Schmidt (Olean, NY/Olean) was the other Alfred University men's basketball player to hit double-figures in scoring with 10 points from his two three-pointers and team-high 4-for-4 free throws.
After falling behind 0-7 within the first three minutes of the first half, the Saxons battled and chipped away at the Hopkins' score until a Seelman jumper took the lead, 31-30 with 4:21 left in the half. For the remainder of the half, the two teams exchanged blows that ultimately resulted in a Saxon 40-39 halftime lead.
Junior forward
Eric Adams (Lebanon, NJ/Hunterdon Central) and junior guard
Julian Reinhart (Hornell, NY/Hornell) each had seven rebounds for the Saxons.
Johns Hopkins shot 25-of-55 (.455 pct.) and was 19-of-27 (.704 pct.) from the charity line. The Saxons shot 8-of-16 (.500 pct.) from beyond the arc on the afternoon.
Alfred University will next open up Empire 8 play against Utica College on Tuesday, January 5 at 6:00 pm.
