Five-Set Win Earns Volleyball A Split After Day One Of Brockport Tournament

BROCKPORT, NY – The Alfred University women's volleyball team split its first two matches of the College at Brockport's tournament on Friday evening, falling to SUNY Potsdam in four sets but claiming a five-set win over Hilbert.

The Saxons (3-20, 0-6 Empire 8) topped Hilbert with set scores of 25-21, 20-25, 25-13, 17-25 and 15-12. Alfred University's one set it took over Potsdam was a 26-24 effort.

Sophomore setter Aubrey Totsline (Fairport, NY/Fairport) broke her career record in set assists with 37 against Hilbert. The new mark bested last year's high of 34 against SUNY Cortland (11.01.14). She then added another 31 against Potsdam, which was still better than every outing this season with her season-high previously being 30 against St. John Fisher (09.25.15). Totsline totaled four points from two kills, one ace and two assisted blocks against the Hawks. She then added 15 digs against Hilbert and 11 against the Bears.

Junior Mary Lou Patnaude (Burnt Hills, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) also broke a personal career best in digs with a match-leading mark of 28. She added another 10 against Potsdam. She totaled nine points against Hilbert with five kills, three aces and two assisted blocks.

Freshman Elisabeth Estep (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) was two digs off of breaking her career record in digs against Potsdam. She got under 24 attacks against the Bears and dug 19 times against the Hawks.

Sophomore Jacquelynn Hicks (Greenville, NY/Greenville) led AU in points against Hilbert with 12.5 (1.0 off of tying her season/career best) from nine kills, three aces and one block assist.

Senior Chelsea Pietrzykowski (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua) followed with 12 points off of 10 kills and four block assists. Sophomore Heather D'Andrea (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst Prep) had 11 points from 11 kills against Hilbert but led the Saxons against Potsdam with 13.5 points from 12 kills, one ace and one block assist. Her 12 kills is a new career-high for her as well.

Alfred University will next close out its stay in Brockport by facing the host institution at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 17 and then will face Empire 8 foe St. John Fisher in non-conference action at 1:00 pm.
