ALFRED, NY — Mary Baughman (Henrietta, NY/Rush-Henrietta), a sophomore on the Alfred University women's cross country team, has been named Empire 8 Conference Women's Runner of the Week.
                
Baughman was honored for her performance at William Smith College on Saturday, in which she won the women's six-kilometer race. Her time of 24:09 was tops in the 89-runner field and was 31 seconds ahead of the runner-up.
                
Baughman has won both races she has run this season. The other was the season-opening meet at Houghton College in which she paced a 37-runner field with an 11:57 finish on the two-mile course.
                
AU is in action next on Saturday, Sept. 20, at Houghton.
