Hartwick gains second half momentum to beat AU, 72-62

Box Score ALFRED, NY- The Alfred University women's basketball team was handed a 72-62 loss by Hartwick College in their second meeting on the season, Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Saxons opened the game with an offensive explosion, taking an 11-point lead (24-13) off a pair of free throws from junior forward Lyndsay Drummond (Ogdensburg, NY/Ogdensburg). Hartwick would return the favor with an 11-0 run, tying the game at 24-24 with 1:08 left in the first half, further earning a 30-28 lead going into the break.

The Hawks opened the second half with another run, putting the score out of reach for AU. For the game, Alfred shot 41 percent from the field, 35 percent beyond the arc, and 84 percent from the free throw line.

Senior guard Rachael Stedman (Hamburg, NY/Springville Griffith) led AU in scoring with 16 points, shooting six-of-nine from the field, and three-for-five from the three-point line. Junior guard Harley Cleary (Rochester, NY/Our Lady of Mercy) followed with 15 points, four assists, and three steals. Senior forward Sarah Federico (Buffalo, NY/Holy Angels) and sophomore forward Hailey Sick (Dansville, NY/Dansville) each pulled down six rebounds.
