HOBOKEN, NJ—The AU Saxons three game win streak was snapped by a 4-0 loss to the Stevens Ducks on Saturday afternoon.
The Saxons looked to take control at the beginning of the game, putting a shot on goal and earning two corner kicks within the first five minutes of the game. The scoring chance came by way of
Omar Mohamed (Rochester, NY/Edison) but the ball was turned away by Stevens' keeper Mike Renna. Over the course of the next ten minutes the Saxons continued to apply pressure on the Ducks, but were unable to break onto the scoreboard.
The Saxon defense however, would not concede a goal on the opposite end of the field, forcing a 0-0 tie going into half time. The Saxons held the Ducks to only two shots on goal in the first 45 minutes of the game.
Unfortunately for the Saxons, the Ducks would prove to be a powerful second half team. Just over eight minutes into the second half, Stevens was able to net their first goal of the game when Carson Pryor beat the AU keeper one-on-one. Pryor would add another goal in the 78
th minute to increase the Duck lead to 2-0. The Ducks added another goal just over two minutes later. Finally, in the 89
th minute a PK led to the final goal for Stevens giving them the 4-0 victory and maintaining their undefeated season within the Empire 8.
Freshman keeper
Chris Gutierrez (Holbrook, NY/Sachem East) was in goal for the Saxons, and had three saves on the afternoon. AU held the advantage in corner kicks 5-2.
The Saxons (9-6-2 Empire 8 3-2-1) have a week off before they head to Utica College for their regular season finale versus the Empire 8 foe.
