Matson claimed sole possession of the Alfred University, single-game goals record, as well as the Empire 8 record! Prior to Saturday’s win over Russell Sage College, there were three Saxons that had scored nine goals in a single game. Jay Morris, Peter Colburn and Jake Lynch all had nine goals in a single game and Lynch did it twice. Since joining the Empire 8, Lynch was the only player that hit nine goals in a single game twice, joining Harry Hughes of Hartwick College and Paul Chapman of Houghton University (then Houghton College). On Saturday, Matson scored 10 goals and added two assists. All of his shots on goal found the back of the net as he fired off a total of 14 shots. He was credited with the game-winning goal and had one man-up goal. Matson added three ground balls in the dominant win.
