George Mecca became an Empire 8 champion in the 800-meter run on Saturday during the E8 Indoor Track & Field Championships at Utica University. He ran a 2:01.83, using his final laps to win his heat from third place to first, ultimately taking the top spot on the podium. The win automatically earns himself All-Empire 8 First Team honors. He also was a part of the 4x400-meter relay that finished fourth with a time of 3:34.29 while also earning eighth place in the 400-meter dash with a 53.36.
