Life Skills Coordinator Story

Stephany Ellison was appointed Life Skills Coordinator in the Alfred University Department of Athletics prior to the 2016-17 academic year.
 
The Life Skills Coordinator is responsible for meeting regularly with first-year student-athletes to counsel them on resources available to help them make a successful transition to college life. Ellison served as a graduate assistant for the AU women’s soccer team one season (2015) before taking over the Life Skills Coordinator position.
 
She is a 2015 graduate of Houghton College, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in inclusive childhood education. While at Houghton, she played three seasons (2012-14) for the Highlanders’ women’s soccer team, earning NCCAA All-American honors and NCCAA East Region Player of the Year honors three times. Twice, in 2013 and 2014, she was named the Empire 8 Conference Offensive Player of the Year. She also played one season of basketball at Houghton.
 
Ellison played one season (2011) of women’s soccer at Division I Eastern Kentucky University before transferring to Houghton. She has played soccer semi-professionally the last two summers: in 2014 for the Charlotte (NC) Lady Eagles and in 2015 for the Knoxville (TN) Force.
 
A native of Whitesville, NY, Ellison is seeking a master’s degree in school counseling from Alfred University and expects to complete her studies in May 2018.
 
Ellison has served as a substitute teacher at Whitesville Central School and Alfred-Almond Central School since 2015 and was a long-term substitute at Whitesville Central from March-June 2016. She completed her student teaching at Alfred-Almond (January-March 2015); did her teaching practicum at Belfast Central School from 2013-14; and completed a teaching internship at Waterfront Elementary School in Buffalo in May 2013.
