Mark Danes joined the Saxons coaching staff in 2023 as an Assistant Coach for the Alpine Ski Team.

Danes has deep experience in competition skiing, which began with leading the ski team in high school in Washington, CT. He advanced his skiing career as a member of the University of Connecticut, (1977) Bromley (1972-73) and Jay Peak Ski Teams (1977-78). He eventually qualified as an alternate member for the U.S. Ski Team, which he maintained for two years in 1978-1980. His primary events were Giant Slalom and Downhill racing. 
 
Danes earned his bachelor’s degree in theater and literature from SUNY Purchase College and his master’s degree from The Citadel. He serves Alfred University as the Vice President for Marketing and Communications. 

He is a US Ski and Snowboard (USSS) certified Referee.
