Morgan served two seasons as the Saxons' junior varsity coach and assistant coach in charge of the defensive backs prior to being promoted to defensive coordinator going into the 2016 season after developing the Saxons' secondary into one of the best in the Empire 8.
In 2016, Morgan aided the Saxons to an Empire 8 championship title going 10-0 during the regular season. AU was the first Empire 8 school to win the title with a perfect 8-0 record since the conference began in 1999. The Saxons went all the way to the Elite 8 in the NCAA National Championship tournament, marking the second time the team had reached the quarterfinal.
The Saxons had the number one scoring defense during the 2016 campaign in conference play with 18.3 points per game. They were the top team in total defense, only allowing 325.1 yards per game overall and 283.3 yards per game in Empire 8 action. The Saxons' rushing defense topped all other members of the conference as they only allowed 72.5 yards per game. They were number one in sacks (38) and in third down conversions with 33.5% overall and 30.8% in conference play.
AU's defense in 2016 was ranked second in pass defense with 210.5 yards per game and pass efficiency defense in conference play with a 121.5 rating. The Saxons' defense had seven All-Empire 8 players, the Empire 8 Defensive Player of the Year, two All-Region players and one All-American.
Morgan's defense continued its dominance in the Empire 8 as they statistically held numerous top spots across the conference in 2017. The Saxons had the top ranking in the E8 in yards per pass attempt (6.3 yards) while having the number two scoring defense with 16.7 points per game in conference and 17 total, total defense with 286 yards per game overall and in conference with 283 per game, rushing defense with 93.8 yards per game (2.7 per carry), rushing touchdowns allowed with nine, interceptions with 17 and 14 in conference and second in sacks with 31 and 24 in conference.

Morgan came to AU from his alma mater, Utica College, where he coached five seasons after concluding a stellar collegiate playing career. He served as an assistant in charge of special teams and was wide receivers coach for the 2009 season. He was an assistant coach in charge of safeties from 2010-13, during which time her was also junior varsity defensive coordinator (2010-11 seasons) and junior varsity head coach (2012-13 seasons).

During Morgan’s tenure as assistant coach in charge of safeties, the Utica pass defense ranked first in the Empire 8 Conference in 2011 and was second in the conference in 2013. In his one season as wide receivers coach (2009), the Pioneers ranked second in the league in passing yards per game.

Morgan was a four-year starting defensive back at Utica (2004-08) and was an Empire 8 All-Conference selection as a junior, in 2007. He ranks second in the school’s record book for interceptions and interception return yardage.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in communication arts from Utica in 2008 and earned a master’s degree in educational leadership and administration, also from Utica, in 2014.
