Alfred University Athletics

The Alfred University football team enjoyed a historic season in 2016, winning a school-record 12 games and going a perfect 8-0 in Empire 8 Conference play to capture the league title. The Saxons hosted three NCAA Division III Championship games, advancing all the way to the quarterfinals of national tournament and finishing the season ranked 12^th in the nation. The team was honored at halftime of the Feb. 11 men's basketball game, where a banner recognizing their accomplishments was unveiled. Several members of the team are pictured in the top photo. In photo at right, senior captain Brendan Buisch unveils the team's NCAA banner in the Galanis Family Arena. The photo below shows a rendering of the Empire 8 Championship/NCAA Elite 8 rings that were purchased for players and team staff. The rings were made possible by a gift from Alfred University alumni Mark Mertel '67 and Russ Cesari '67.
