UTICA, NY -- The Alfred University women's tennis team defeated Russell Sage College, 7-0 at Utica University on Saturday afternoon.
The Saxons (3-5, 3-3 Empire 8) didn't give up a single game during doubles with perfect 6-0 victories between all three lineup spots.
Becca Epping (Mitchell, IN/Bedford North Lawrence) teamed with
Alyssa Seegert (Oroville, CA/Las Plumas) at No. 1,
Elizabeth Madsen (Portland, OR/Grant) paired with
Camryn Moore (Prattsburgh, NY/Prattsburgh Central) at No. 2 and No. 3 was occupied by
Alexis Gits (Irondequoit, NY/Irondequoit) and
Anastasia Shaw (Orange County, NY/Washingtonville).
"Great result today. We played very well in doubles and carried that momentum into singles," Head Coach
Jordan Crouch said. "Anastasia and Alexis were particularly strong all day today. I challenged the team to take advantage of each point and be aggressive as much as we could be. I think they took that to heart. Excited for practice Monday as we head into three matches this upcoming week. Let's go Saxons!"
Gits closed out a perfect day as she won at No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-0. Epping at No. 1 singles, Shaw at No. 4 singles and Moore at No. 5 singles each had 6-0 set victories and each had 6-1 set victories. Both Epping and Moore had their second sets be clean, 6-0 sweeps and Shaw's first set win was a 6-0 victory.
The Saxons will next travel to Fredonia for the make-up match after the initial was called due to weather. They head to the Blue Devils for a Tuesday, September 29 match at 4:00pm.
