FREDONIA, NY — The Alfred University women's soccer team opened the 2026 Blue Devil Classic with a 3-0 loss to Oswego State on Friday afternoon.
"Unfortunate result today," Head Coach
Craig Yanni said. "We need to figure out how to limit our mistakes in the back. The good thing is we have a quick turnaround and a chance to put forth a better showing tomorrow."
The Saxons (1-1-2, 0-0-0 Empire 8) created an early scoring opportunity following a corner kick, but Oswego State's goalkeeper turned away a shot from
Zoey Wolf (Holley, NY/Holley).
Isabelle Dennis (Livonia, NY/Livonia) recorded Alfred's next shot on goal in the 34th minute, but the Lakers' goalkeeper again came up with the save.
Oswego State (2-2-0, 0-0-0 SUNYAC) broke through in the 37th minute when a contested cross found its way into the back of the net to give the Lakers a 1-0 lead. Just minutes later, Oswego State added another goal to take a 2-0 advantage into halftime.
The Lakers extended their lead early in the second half, scoring on a cross from the left side to make it 3-0. Alfred University generated two shots on target in the closing minutes, with
Liz Gorczyca (Buffalo, NY/Mount Mercy Academy) and
Sidney Khuns (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport) each testing the Oswego State goalkeeper. The Saxons were unable to find the back of the net, however, as the Lakers secured the 3-0 victory.
Alfred University will conclude the Blue Devil Classic on Saturday, facing host Fredonia at 12:30 PM.
