Softball Drop Two on the Road to Rochester

ROCHESTER, NY – The Alfred University softball team fell in a pair of non-conference games to University of Rochester on Tuesday evening.

The Saxons (12-12, 6-4 Empire 8) fell in the first game, 10-2 and the second game, 11-3 to the Yellowjackets (19-5, 6-0 Liberty League).

Game One (Six Innings)
Alfred University – 2 | University of Rochester – 10

Ally Boulger (Mukilteo, WA/Kamiak) scored the Saxons first run in the top of the second, after the Yellowjackets put three on the board in the first frame, when her and Brielle Wark (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville East) attempted a double steal. Wark was out on the play but it gave the opening for Boulger to make it a 3-1 game.

Rochester put four runs on the board in the bottom of the third before AU scored another run.

Kendall Steward (Kennedy, NY/Randolph) doubled down the left field line for Alfred's lone RBI, bringing home Bella Mistretta (Alexandria, VA/Hayfield Secondary) in the top of the fifth.

The Yellowjackets scored two more runs in the bottom of the fifth and then their walk-off run in the bottom of the sixth.

Game Two (Five Innings)
Alfred University – 3 | University of Rochester – 11

The Yellowjackets scored three runs in the bottom of the first and one more in the bottom of the second inning to open the nightcap.

The Saxons' first score came in the top of the fourth when Steward singled through the left side to bring home Mistretta. Taylor Carlson (Huntington Beach, CA/Huntington Beach) singled down the right field line to drive Alexis Martinez (Anaheim, CA/Woodbridge) and Steward, bringing the Saxons within one run, 4-3.

Rochester scored two more runs in the bottom of the fourth and put up five more in the bottom of the fifth for the walk-off win.

The Saxons will next host Utica University as a return to Empire 8 action on Friday, April 17 with the first game of the doubleheader beginning at 3:00pm from Harrington Field.
