MORRISVILLE, NY – The Alfred University women's lacrosse team dropped its non-conference matchup at SUNY Morrisville, 16-13, on Saturday.

The Saxons (0-2, 0-0 Empire 8) had a 4-3 advantage in the first period. The Mustangs (1-0, 0-0 SUNYAC) responded with a 4-3 advantage of their own to tie the game at 7-all in the second. AU battled it out in the second half, but couldn't overcome the 9-6 scoring advantage by SUNY Morrisville.

Jordan Genant (Johns Creek, GA/Centennial) had a career day as she was AU's leading scorer for the first time in her career. The first-year led with a team-high seven points on four goals and three assists while also causing her first two career turnovers. Megan Rinker (Le Roy, NY/Le Roy) was second for AU in scoring with a season-high four goals. The senior had 12 shots with eight in between the pipes. Rinker also added two ground balls and a caused turnover to her stat line. Sydney Angelo (Windsor, NY/Windsor Central) registered a career-high four points on two goals and two assists. The sophomore had a strong presence on defense, causing two turnovers and picking up a season-high seven ground balls.

Goalie Molly Howlett (Brockport, NY/Brockport) tallied a career-high 12 saves in between the pipes.

During the first period, AU went through two ties that were broken by Genant, who scored her first two goals of her career. Paige Stansfield (Painted Post, NY/Corning-Painted Post) flipped the ball into the net to make it 4-2, with under two minutes left. SUNY Morrisville followed with a goal of its own, but the Saxons held on for a 4-3 advantage at the end of the first 15 minutes.

The Mustangs notched two quick goals to get in front, 5-4, at the start of the second. Genant and Rinker each scored one minute apart from each other to return the Saxons up top by two. Both teams were scoreless for the next seven minutes until Angelo caused a turnover by the Mustang goalie and picked up the ball to score her second goal of the game at 2:29. SUNY Morrisville followed with back-to-back goals to tie the game at 7-all going into halftime.

After AU trailed 11-9 in the third period, Rinker and Morgan Wise (Kittanning, PA/Armstrong) combined for back-to-back goals to tie the game at the 11:42 mark of the fourth. Angelo picked up the ground ball after a caused turnover by Harper Smith (Randolph, NY/Randolph) and passed the ball to Rinker, who broke the tie, 12-11. Unfortunately, SUNY Morrisville went on a 5-1 run to pull away in the final minutes.
