ALFRED, NY – Alfred University's
Youssef amr Abdallatif (Cairo, Egypt/Raya Language School) was named the Empire 8 Men's Swimming & Diving Swimmer of the Week on Monday afternoon.
Monday's announcement was the fourth time that Abdallatif earned the recognition and it was the sixth time a Saxon swimmer earned weekly honors from the conference. The six times is a school record for most in a season as
Andre Ayala (Mexico City, Mexico/Preparatoria No°5) earned the honor twice.
Abdallatif led the Saxons in a road win over Nazareth University on Friday afternoon. He totaled four wins as AU won every event. One of his wins broke the Nazareth University Swimming Pool record as he clocked a time of 56.85 in the 100-meter backstroke, besting the rest of the pool by almost 12 seconds. Abdallatif then won the 50-meter butterfly with a time of 25.68, defeating the rest of the competition by over three seconds. He opened the afternoon by swimming the leadoff backstroke leg of the 200-meter medley relay, swimming the fastest opening split of 26.75, over five seconds faster than everyone else as he,
Mahmoud Elkady (Cairo, Egypt/Smart City), Calem Striker (Hornell, NY/Hornell) and
Emmanuel Drappatz (Pittsburgh, PA/Fox Chapel Area) combined for a winning time of 1:52.08. Abdallatif ended the day by teaming with
Keagen Winkky (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads), Elkady and
Sean Killian (Kenmore, NY/St. Joseph's Collegiate Institution) in the 200-meter freestyle relay. Abdallatif had the fastest leg of the event with a time of 24.26 as the Saxon team put up a winning time of 1:44.58.
