KEUKA PARK, NY - The Alfred University women's soccer team began Empire 8 competition with a scoreless draw against Keuka College on Saturday afternoon from the Jephson Community Athletic Complex. 

The Saxons (4-1-1, 0-0-1 Empire 8) totaled 12 shot attempts, with five being on goal against the Wolves (0-3-3, 0-0-1 Empire 8). AU additionally recorded eight corner kicks as part of their efforts. 

Ava Thayer (Nunda, NY/Keshequa) finished the game with three shots, with two being on goal. Lina Young (North Collins, NY/North Collins) registered a pair of shots on goal. Kiani Barnard-Pratt (Westford, MA/Westford Academy) picked up one save as part of a shutout performance. 

"This was an unfortunate result to open up E8 play," Head Coach Craig Yanni said. "We will have to get back to work on Monday to figure out how we can be more productive on the offensive side of the ball."

Alfred University relied on Zoey Wolf (Holley, NY/Holley) early in the first half, as she recorded a shot on goal in the second minute of action. Thayer and Young each had clean shots across the final five minutes of the first half, but went into halftime without a score. In the 58th minute, Barnard-Pratt was credited with her lone save of the afternoon. The defense limited the Wolves to just a pair of shot attempts across the final 30 minutes of regulation. Despite a shot on goal from Thayer, the Saxons could not find the back of the net before coming away with the draw. 

Alfred University will next compete on the road at Cortland on Wednesday at 4:00 PM.
