ITHACA, NY – The Alfred University men's swimming & diving team completed the Bomber Invitational hosted by Ithaca College in third place out of the six teams competing on Saturday evening.
 
The Saxons were led by Andre Ayala (Mexico City, Mexico/Preparatoria No°5) as he picked up his third win of the weekend with a time of 16:12.49 in the 1,650-yard freestyle. When he reached the 1,000-yard mark, his time of 9:43.28 was good enough to claim his second school record of the weekend, breaking the previous mark of 9:45.27 set by Jeffrey Benton '89 in his senior year.
 
Youssef amr Abdallatif (Cairo, Egypt/Raya Language School) followed in the next event to claim second place with a time of 1:50.77 in the 200-yard backstroke. He broke the Alfred University school record of 1:50.36 held by Todd Striker '01 when he competed in Saturday's morning preliminary round, swimming a 1:50.32.
 
Calem Striker (Hornell, NY/Hornell) was the next A-Finalist as he finished fifth in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 47.14. Following the 100-free, Carlos Gonzalez (Baja California, Mexico/Unifront) picked up the victory in the 200-yard breaststroke. He reached the wall with a time of 2:04.59 to win by over two seconds. Mahmoud Elkady (Cairo, Egypt/Smart City) finished eighth in the event with a time of 2:12.00.
 
The Saxons ended the weekend with a third place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay as the team of Abdallatif, Emmanuel Drappatz (Pittsburgh, PA/Fox Chapel Area), Ayala and Striker combined for a time of 3:10.23.
 
The Saxons will next turn their sights toward 2026 with a road Empire 8 dual meet at Nazareth University on Friday, January 9 at noon.
