ITHACA, NY – The Alfred University men's swimming & diving team completed the second day of the Bomber Invite on Friday, hosted by Ithaca College, in third place.
Youssef amr Abdallatif (Cairo, Egypt/Raya Language School) swam an NCAA B-Cut time in the 100-yard backstroke during Friday's preliminaries. He clocked a time of 48.81 to rebreak his own school record and earn the top time going into the evening finals. He swam a 49.62 in the finals to finish second overall.
Jaxson McQuaid (Norwalk, CT/Norwalk) earned a postseason ticket on the 1-meter diving board as he scored 436.00 points to finish second. He will compete in the NCAA Diving Regionals thanks to his efforts on Friday.
Jordan Annlee (Henrietta, NY/Rush-Henrietta) joined McQuaid on the 1-meter board on Friday, earning seventh place with a score of 253.00, helping the Saxons to a new team score of 752 points after two days of competition. They are ahead of Vassar College's 664 points.
The Saxons started Friday's evening events with the 200-yard medley relay as Abdallatif was joined by
Carlos Gonzalez (Baja California, Mexico/Unifront),
Andre Ayala (Mexico City, Mexico/Preparatoria No°5) and
Calem Striker (Hornell, NY/Hornell). The team finished third with a time of 1:34.39.
Ayala next went on to win the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:04.94 to break his own school record. It was his second win of the weekend after winning the 500-yard freestyle and breaking a 41-year old record in the process.
Gonzalez and
Mahmoud Elkady (Cairo, Egypt/Smart City) finished sixth and seventh in the 100-yard breaststroke. Gonzalez swam a 58.31 while Elkady was 0.60 behind his teammate.
The Saxons ended the day as Ayala, Striker,
Uros Stojic (Niš, Serbia/Prva niška gimnazija Stevan Sremac) and Gonzalez teamed up for the 800-yard freestyle relay. They combined for a time of 7:04.82 to take second place.
The Saxons will close out their weekend on Saturday morning and evening at Ithaca.
