ITHACA, NY – The Alfred University men's swimming & diving team opened the 2025 Ithaca College Bomber Invitational on Thursday evening as the evening was highlighted by the breaking of a 41-year old record.
Andre Ayala (Mexico City, Mexico/Preparatoria No°5) clocked a time of 4:34.00 in the 500-yard freestyle, beating the Alfred University school record of 4:38.03 set by four-time All-American and AU Hall of Fame member,
John Jewell '85. Ayala's time stands atop of the season times in the Empire 8. The Saxons sit in third place with 311 points, ahead of Vassar College's 251 points and behind University of Rochester's 462 points.
The 200-yard freestyle relay team of
Emmanuel Drappatz (Pittsburgh, PA/Fox Chapel Area), Keagen Winkky (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads), Sean Killian (Kenmore, NY/St. Joseph's Collegiate Institution) and
Youssef amr Abdallatif (Cairo, Egypt/ Raya Language School) got things rolling in the evening, finishing with a time of 1:28.68 for fourth place. The B-Team of
Zeke Doerner (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder), Lungile Raditladi (Gaborone, Botswana/Enko Botho), Mahmoud Elkady (Cairo,Egypt/Smart City) and
Uros Stojic (Niš, Serbia/Prva niška gimnazija Stevan Sremac) also had a Top-10 finish in the event, clocking a time of 1:33.44 for 10
th.
Carlos Gonzalez (Baja California, Mexico/Unifront) tacked on a third place finish in the 200-yard individual medley, finishing with a time of 1:55.34 in a neck-to-neck-to-neck finish for the win. The two Bomber swimmers clocked times of 1:54.99 and 1:55.04. Abdallatif earned an eighth place finish in the 50-yard freestyle in the A-Finals while
Calem Striker (Hornell, NY/Hornell) won the B-Finals with a time of 21.37.
Abdallatif, Gonzalez, Ayala and Striker teamed up for the 400-yard medley relay to close out Thursday's opening events. They combined for a time of 3:24.70 to finish second, just shy of the 2009 school record of 3:23.30.
