Saxons Sweep Two-Day Road Show at West Virginia University

REEDSVILLE, WV – The Alfred University western equestrian team earned High Point Team on both days of the West Virginia University Show on Saturday and Sunday.
 
Samantha Smit (Columbiana, OH/Ursuline) was Saturday's High Point Rider while Emily Peluso (Ridgway, PA/Johnsonburg) earned Reserve High Point Rider on Sunday. Both Keira Hanschman (Chicago, IL/Cary-Grove Community) and Megan Wilson (Youngstown, OH/Ursuline) earned trips to the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Regionals. Hanschman earned her ticket for Level I Horsemanship while Wilson will show in Rookie Horsemanship.
 
Over the weekend, the Saxons collected a grand total of 10 first place ribbons. On Saturday, Smit won Open Horsemanship and was followed by Hannah Barr (Burdett, NY/Odessa-Montour) in Beginner Horsemanship, Michael Doner (Newfield, NY/Newfield) in Pre-Rookie Horsemanship, Meridian Bremel (Reading, VT/Woodstock Union) in Rookie Horsemanship – Section A and Abigail Nevins (Jonesville, NY/Jonesville) in Level I Horsemanship.
 
On Sunday, Peluso won Level II Ranch Riding and was followed by Nevins winning Level I Horsemanship – Section A, Hanschman winning Level I Horsemanship – Section B and Doner and Smit winning the same classes as they did on Saturday.
 
Smit was followed by West Virginia University's Lyndsey Hoskinson as the Reserve High Point Rider on Saturday and Peluso followed Ashley Wolfe of Alfred State College as she was the High Point Rider on Sunday.
 
Alfred University leads the Area 25 Regional Standings with 57 team points while A-State and West Virginia are tied for second with 49 points. Slippery Rock University is fourth with 19 points and Bethany College follows with no points in fifth place.
