ONEONTA, NY – The Alfred University women's tennis team ended the regular season with a 5-2 victory at SUNY Oneonta (4-7, 1-4 SUNYAC) on Saturday.

Becca Epping (Mitchell, IN/Bedford North Lawrence) and
Alyssa Seegert (Oroville, CA/Las Plumas) got things started with a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles.
Alina Zabihailo (Kyiv, Ukraine/Educational Complex #143) and
Elizabeth Madsen (Portland, OR/Grant) defeated their opponent by the same score at No. 1.
Alexis Gits (Irondequoit, NY/Irondequoit) and
Allison Windisch (Pittsford, NY/Sutherland) secured the doubles sweep with a 6-4 win at No. 3.
In singles, Gits won the first match at No. 5 with scores of 6-0, 6-0. Zabihailo joined Gits with another straight-set victory of 7-5, 6-2, at No. 1. Windisch played her opponent in a first-set tiebreaker at No. 4. Eventually, she came out victorious with a win of 7-6 (7-5), 6-3.
Anastasia Shaw (Orange County, NY/Washingtonville) earned her fourth career singles victory in a three-set battle at No. 6. She lost the first set, 6-4, before rallying with wins in the final two, 6-2, 6-2.
The Saxons (10-4, 5-3 Empire 8) will be the No. 5 seed in the Empire 8 Championship Tournament. AU will travel up to Rochester to take on No. 4 St. John Fisher University in the first round on Tuesday, Oct. 14, at 6:00 PM.
