"We got a nice compliment from the Utica coach for the improvement she's seen in our program," Head Coach
Julie Decker said. "As a team, we know we are making progress and it's nice for that to be recognized by other coaches. This has been one of the best seasons this program has had in a long time. Much of that is due to the dedication of our team leaders and especially our seniors. They have left a lasting legacy on this program and will be missed."
Utica was the first to get on the scoreboard in the opening quarter, but Alfred University relied on a goal from Stroh to tie the game. The Pioneers scored during a man-up situation, but the Saxons quickly tied the game up thanks to Booth's first goal of the afternoon. Utica added two additional goals to take a 4-2 lead into the second quarter. The Pioneers were once again the first to score in the second quarter, but Stroh offset the damage with her second goal of the game. Utica relied on eight consecutive goals before carrying a 13-3 lead into the break.
The first spark in the second half for the AU offense came from Booth, who found the back of the net with just over six minutes remaining in the third quarter. Utica responded with five goals of their own to extend their lead with one quarter remaining. Booth scored the final two goals of regulation, but Utica managed to come away with the win.
