ROCHESTER, NY – An overtime effort from the Alfred University women's soccer team resulted in a 1-0 loss to St. John Fisher University as part of the Empire 8 Championship Tournament Quarterfinals on Saturday afternoon.
Megan Rinker (Le Roy, NY/Le Roy) was the lone Saxon to record a shot on goal.
Kiani Barnard-Pratt (Westford, MA/Westford Academy) played well in goal, recording seven saves for Alfred University. As part of the starting lineup,
Nyah Solly (Colden, NY/Springville-Griffith Institute) broke the women's soccer program record with 73 career games started.
"Congratulations to our seniors on a great career," Head Coach
Craig Yanni said. "Today wasn't the outcome we were hoping for, but the team should keep their heads held high, as they gave everything they had during the course of the game."
Barnard-Pratt was active early in the opening half, recording a save in the ninth minute of action.
Abby Scanlan (Albion, NY/Charles D'Amico) attempted a shot for AU moments later that was ultimately blocked by a defender.
Sidney Khuns (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport) had a late corner kick opportunity, but the offense couldn't reach the back of the net before going into halftime with a scoreless draw.
The Cardinals nearly scored in the early stages of the second half, with a shot going off the crossbar. Barnard-Pratt managed to tally four saves for the Saxons in the final half of regulation before forcing an overtime period. In overtime, the Cardinals secured the win following a goal in the 99th minute.
