ALFRED, NY – Alfred University's Carlos Gonzalez (Baja California, Mexico/Unifront) was selected as the Empire 8 Men's Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Week on Monday.
 
Gonzalez continued his historical start to the season for the Alfred University men's swimming & diving team, who defeated Pitt-Bradford 154-47 this past weekend in a dual-meet. Gonzalez broke the respective pool records in both the 1,000-yard freestyle and 200-yard individual medley events. In the freestyle, Gonzalez clocked in with a time of 10:04.43. He later claimed victory in the individual medley with a time of 1:54.79. Gonzalez was additionally joined by teammates Emiliano Terrazas (La Paz, Bolivia/Saint Andrew's), Paul Tuttle (Irondequoit, NY/Irondequoit) and Emmanuel Drappatz (Pittsburgh, PA/Fox Chapel Area) to win the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:30.87.
 
Gonzalez was joined by Grace Rittenhouse (Dansville, NY/Dansville) as the other Saxon who earned Empire 8 Weekly Honors as the Women's Basketball Player of the Week.
