ALFRED, NY – The scoring efforts for the University of Rochester led to a 4-0 win over the Alfred University women's soccer team on Thursday evening from Yunevich Stadium.
The Saxons (0-3, 0-0 Empire 8) defended 22 shots from the Yellowjackets (3-0, 0-0 Liberty League), eight of which were on goal.
Darby Lukowski (Seneca Falls, NY/Mynderse Academy) had the lone shot on goal for Alfred University, while
Kiani Barnard-Pratt (Westford, MA/Westford Academy) finished the game with four saves.
"I thought the defense and the team as a whole did a nice job in the first half executing the game plan," Head Coach
Craig Yanni said. "Unfortunately, the play dropped off a bit in the second half. The coaching staff will continue to evaluate our decisions."
Early in the opening half, a shot from
Lina Young (North Collins, NY/North Collins) went off the crossbar to nearly put the Saxons on the scoreboard. Moments later, the Yellowjackets found the back of the net for the early lead. The AU defense rejected Rochester's next six shots before trailing 1-0 at halftime. In the second half, the Yellowjackets relied on their depth to extend the lead and ultimately secure the win.
"We are excited to have a quick turnaround and get back on the field at home," Yanni said. "We are expecting to have an intense practice Friday to prepare us for Saturday."
Alfred University will next host Pitt-Bradford on Saturday at 6:00 PM.
