ALFRED, NY - The Alfred University equestrian teams will look to build on their stellar past season after having three riders go to Nationals.
Program Director Steve Shank is in his tenth season with the program.
"We have a lot of strong returning riders and feel they are set up for success. " Shank said. "Along with our returners, almost half of our team is incoming First Years who are a very talented group as well."
The Western Equestrian roster was the first to return to action, as they earned the Championship Team title at the New York State Fair in late August. Their next show is scheduled for Saturday, September 30th, which will be their first home show of the season.
The Hunt Seat roster begins their season on the weekend of October 14th and 15th when they will travel to Rochester Institute of Technology for their Double-Header Shows.
The Dressage roster is set to start their season the very next weekend of October 21st and 22nd, where they will travel to take part in back-to-back shows at Delaware Valley University in Doylestown, Pennsylvania.
The equestrian rosters are led by Head Coach Theresa Shattan. "We are extremely fortunate to have Theresa; she is one of our team's biggest assets." Shank said. "She has fully bought into everything we do here at Alfred University."
Alfred University's Equestrian Program was recently named as one of the Top 10 Horse Colleges in the country for Equestrian. "It was one of the best feelings when we found out that we were named as a Top 10 Horse College in the US." Shank said. "Our equestrian center is one of the premier facilities on the East Coast. We are very thankful for how much Alfred University has supported the program and will continue to work hard."
