ALFRED, NY - The Alfred University women's lacrosse team resumed their spring season with a 14-3 loss to Daemen University on Wednesday afternoon from Yunevich Stadium.
The Saxons (0-2, 0-0 Empire 8) came up short, falling to the Wildcats of Daemen University (3-3, 0-0 ECC).
Amelia Booth (Staatsburg, NY/FDR) led the Saxons with two goals on three shots. Kylee Bedette (Waterloo, NY/Waterloo) netted her first collegiate goal. Alyssa Piechota (Webster, NY/Webster) recorded 15 saves for Alfred.
"We did a better job with our defensive organization and offensively shared the ball better. We worked hard on the ride and did a better job in transition to limit their fast break opportunities." Head Coach Julie Decker said.
Booth tied the game at one with 12:42 to play in the first quarter after the Wildcats got off to an early lead. Daemen quickly responded to the Saxons' tying goal, scoring four straight to conclude the first quarter. It was all Wildcats the rest of the half, as they led 7-1 going to halftime.
Both of the other two Saxon goals came in the fourth quarter, with Booth adding her second of the game to start the fourth. Bedette found the back of the net for her first collegiate goal to beat the buzzer in the fourth quarter, but the Saxons lost 14-3 in the end.
"Before our next game, we're going to continue to work on our team clears and to find ways to get more shots off offensively. Winning the draw control and ground ball battles are going to be crucial and something we continue to emphasize." Decker said.
Alfred University will next host Thiel College on Saturday, March 18 at 1:00 PM.
