ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University men's swimming team had its second member in a row named the Empire 8 Men's Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Week as
William LaMastus (Maumee, OH/Anthony Wayne) garnered the honor on Monday after an official announcement by Associate Commissioner,
Joe Venniro.
LaMastus followed
Phillip Volaski (Poughquag, NY/Arlington) as the second Saxon men's recipient of the Empire 8 award in a row.
LaMastus was undefeated during a road dual-meet matchup at University of Pittsburgh at Bradford. He won two individual events and teamed up for a meet-opening 200-yard medley relay victory as well. He swam anchor along with
Paul Tuttle (Irondequoit, NY/Irondequoit), Volaski and
Giuseppe Piede (Dunellen, NJ/St. Peter's Prep), finishing with a time of 1:42.99. LaMastus had the fastest leg of the entire four-team pool in the relay, swimming a 22.79 freestyle portion. He then went on to lead the Saxons to a one-two-three finish in the 100-yard butterfly, clocking in a time of 55.49. LaMastus closed out his evening with a time of 58.15 in the 100-yard backstroke.
LaMastus was also named a Saxon of the Week on Monday alongside women's swimming & diving's
Mia Spencer (Omaha, NE/Omaha Central).
The Saxons will next travel to Fredonia to face off against the host Blue Devils as well as the Yellowjackets of University of Rochester in a tri-meet on Saturday, November 12. The meet is set to start at noon.
