Women's Tennis Comes Up Short to Hartwick, 6-3

ALFRED, NY – A competitive matchup for the Alfred University women's tennis team led to a 6-3 loss to Hartwick College on Saturday afternoon from the William T. Brown Tennis Courts.

"What a battle today," Head Coach Jordan Crouch said. "Hartwick is a great program and we hung in with them every step along the way. I'm proud of how we battled back in singles after being down 3-0 from doubles."

In singles action, Alina Zabihailo (Kyiv, Ukraine/Educational Complex #143) was the first to score for the Saxons, winning from the top spot in 6-1, 7-5 fashion. Macy Youngberg (Falconer, NY/Falconer Central) quickly followed it up with a 6-3, 6-3 win from No. 4. The win for Youngberg marked her 21st overall win of the season, which is tied for the most in program history in a single season. Abigail Call (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) rounded out the afternoon for the Saxons with a 6-2, 7-6 win from No. 5.

"We have another chance tomorrow to end on a high note and I'm excited to get to raise some money in honor of Courtney!" Crouch said.

Alfred University will next conclude their regular season on Sunday when they host Russell Sage College at 1:00 PM. The matchup will be themed as a 'Pink Match' for the Saxons, as they honor Courtney (Ferrara) Wilhelm '17, who recently passed away from breast cancer. We ask that everyone comes out to support our Saxons, as they raise money in honor of Courtney throughout the afternoon.
