Alfred Concludes Regular Season Versus Nazareth

ROCHESTER, NY- The Alfred University women's soccer team completed their regular season finale with a 3-0 loss versus Nazareth College on Saturday from Golden Flyer Stadium. The Saxons finished the regular season with an 0-5, 0-5 Empire 8 overall record. The Golden Flyers completed their season with a 8-0, 6-0 Empire 8 standing.

Sophomore goalkeeper Hannah Fuller (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Forks) made her second start of the season for the Saxons, recording a season-high 13 saves. Sophomore midfielder Stephany Samis (Le Roy, NY/Le Roy) finished with Alfred's lone shot on goal.

"We knew that Nazareth was going to be a tough matchup," Head Coach Craig Yanni said. "For the most part, our team executed the plan. We had a couple of breakdowns that led to goals, but it's difficult to keep a team like Nazareth off the board for a full 90 minutes."

The Saxons defense stood tall to open the first half, denying Nazareth's first seven shots. The Golden Flyers found the back of the net for the first time at the 26:53 mark. Three additional corner kicks for Nazareth didn't hurt Alfred, as they trailed 1-0 at the break.

The Golden Flyers scored early in the second half, as a goal 55 seconds into play resulted in a 2-0 lead. Alfred continued to play aggressive defense, but a third goal from Nazareth kept the match out of reach.

"The regular season has been a great learning lesson for me," Yanni said. "We have been able to see things that we need to address for our program to grow to compete at a higher level."
