ALFRED, NY – Sophomore
Emiliano Terrazas (La Paz, Bolivia/Saint Andrew's) was named the Empire 8 Men's Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Week on Monday afternoon in an official announcement made by Associate Commissioner,
Joe Venniro.
Â
Terrazas opened up the 2021-22 season with strong finishes against the always tough Rochester Institute of Technology men's swimming & diving team. He was one of just a handful of second-place earners for AU as he had two silver finishes on the day in individual events and one with the 200-yard medley relay. He swam a 1:01.34 in the 100-yard breaststroke and then a 2:13.71 in the 200-yard version where he both flat out earned second place in those events.
Â
He started the meet with swimming the breaststroke leg of the medley relay as he teamed with
William LaMastus (Maumee, OH/Anthony Wayne), Fernando Lagos (Tegucigalpa, Honduras/Escuela e Instituo Lincoln) and
Colby Watkins for a time of 1:39.02, edging out the third place team time of 1:40.97. Terrazas then swam a third place time of 2:02.43 in the 200-yard individual medley in his first place exhibition win.
Â
On Monday, Terrazas was joined in the E8 Weekly Awards by
Max Freeman IV (Painted Post, NY/Corning-Painted Post) earning Empire 8 Football Co-Offensive Player of the Week and
Hannah Fuller (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Forks) being named the Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week.
Â
Terrazas and the Saxons will next travel to Nazareth College on Friday, October 29 for a 5:00pm dual-meet start.
