Saxons Play to 1-1 Draw Versus Hartwick

ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University women's soccer team tied in Empire 8 action with Hartwick College on Saturday night, after a travel issue pushed the game back to an 8:00 pm start, as both teams battled the weather for a 1-1 standstill at Yunevich Stadium.

The Saxons (8-4-3, 3-1-1 Empire 8) got on the board first with a Nyah Solly (Colden, NY/Springville-Griffith Institute) lobbed shot in the eighth minute of play, receiving the ball off a failed clearing attempt from a Hartwick defender. It wasn't until the 57th minute of action that Hartwick found the net off a corner kick from Nicole Casab with Nicole Conway redirecting it.

"I thought the team played well in first 20 minutes of the game with a lot of intensity," Head Coach Craig Yanni said. "We need to work on the small things and put a whole game together. We responded well after Hartwick scored with a lot of offensive opportunities, but unfortunately, we couldn't get one of our chances to go in. We're definitely looking forward to getting back to work on Monday."

The Saxons outshot the ball tonight, firing off 14 shots with six on goal compared to 10 shots with three on target. Sara Staup made five saves for the Hawks while Hannah Fuller (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Forks) stopped two of the three on goal shots.

AU also held the advantage in corner kicks, 7-3 but was called for fouls more than Hartwick, 15-10.

The Saxons will next travel to Houghton College on Wednesday, October 20 for a 7:00pm start.
