ROCHESTER, NY – The Alfred University women's soccer team traveled to the University of Rochester on Wednesday evening to take on the 20
th ranked Yellow jackets. The Saxons (4-2-2) fell for the first time since late August by a score of 2-0 to UR.
Â
Rochester had several opportunities in the first half but First-Year goalkeeper
Hannah Fuller (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Forks) was up to the task each time. She made three saves in the first half and five more in the second half.
Â
The score stayed 1-0 as the Yellow jackets maintained the lead after the first 45 minutes of play.
Â
The second half stayed tight with Fuller smothering shot attempts and corner kicks from Rochester.
Â
In the 73
rd minute, UR was able to sneak one through to gain some insurance for the remaining 16 minutes of play.
Â
A corner kick came late for the Saxons but that turned out to be one of the few second half chances they had as they fell to a tough University of Rochester team.
Â
"We ran into a tough U of R team tonight," Head Coach
Craig Yanni said. "I thought the first half we did a nice job competing. Letting up a late first half goal really hurt us and we had a tough time getting composed after that point."
Â
AU will be back in action on Saturday as with an Empire 8 contest at St. John Fisher College. That contest will kick off at 7PM.
