Wright sets career assists mark, Saxons dominate in 10-0 victory over SUNY-Delhi

ALFRED, N.Y. – Graduate midfielder Emily Wright (Dallas, Texas/Plano West) of the Alfred University women's soccer team set the program's all-time assist mark, leading the Saxons in a dominating 10-0 victory over SUNY-Delhi, in non-league action from Yunevich Stadium Wednesday evening.

Alfred improves to 8-5-3, while SUNY Delhi falls to 7-6-2.

Wright earned the record-setting assist off a corner kick opportunity in the 67th minute. Wright took the corner kick, finding Olivia Cronmiller (Livonia, N.Y./Livonia) with a header that beat the goalie high. Wright's 17th career assist breaks a 35-year old record, set by Mary Quackenbush '84. She also ties Quackenbush's single season assist mark with her eighth helper.

Wright also tallied a pair of goals for the Saxons, who won their third game in a row. Cronmiller, Karah Landries (Angelica, N.Y./Genesee Valley), and Krissy Roberts (Chittenango, N.Y./Chittenago) scored twice, Natalie O'Brien (Syracuse, N.Y./East Syracuse-Minoa), and Olivia Ford (Cato, N.Y./Cato-Meridian Central) all scored goals. Abigail Austin (Hornell, N.Y./Hornell) tallied a pair of assists. Cronmiller, Lexi Riffelbach (Clifton Park, N.Y./Catholic Central), Quinn Fowler (Chester, N.Y./Washingtonville), Stephany Samis (LeRoy, N.Y./LeRoy) and Amanda Guariglia (Valley Stream, N.Y./Valley Stream South) all tallied an assist. Hannah Fuller (Binghamton, N.Y.) did not need to make a save to earn her eighth victory of the season, playing in the first 45 minutes. Krissy Chapman (Hinsdale, N.Y./Hinsdale) played 27:59 in relief, while Makenzie Cashmer (Weedville, Pa./Elk County Catholic) earned the Saxon's lone save in 17:01, a huge stop on a 1-on-1 situation in the 82nd minute to complete the shutout.

The Saxons peppered the Broncos with shots early, racking up four shots on goal and five corner opportunities in the first 15 minutes.

SUNY Delhi worked the counter attack to near perfection, getting its first chance on goal in the 16th minute, as a low cross from Alexa Scaglione just missed the feet of Madeeah Oranchak in front of the open net.

After many opportunities, the Saxons struck gold for its first goal in the 21st minute. Rifflebach took a shot from the right side that the goalie tipped away. The ball took a fortuitous bounce that landed at the feet of O'Brien, who knocked the chance into the open net.

Alfred doubled up the score in a similar way in the 25th minute. This time, Austin took a feed from the left corner of the field that was tipped away by the goalie. Once again, the ball fell in the waiting feet of Cronmiller, who flicked a high shot over the head of the diving goalie.

Wright scored the first of her two goals, with a rocket in the 41st minute. She took a feed from Austin from about 25 yards at the top of the penalty box, beating the Delhi keeper high and to the left.

Alfred capped the five-goal first half with its goal in the 43rd minute. Off a corner kick, the ball fell in a scrum to the left of net. Guarligia received the ball, feeding Roberts for the finish.

Wright earned her second goal of the game in the 60th minute, curling a free kick from 30 yards out, beating Delhi backup Rachel Scoones high. Not soon after, Wright tallied the record assist which led to Cronmiller's second goal. A few minutes later, Landries got her second goal of the game, off a long feed from Samis. Alfred capped the scoring with a pair of goals four minutes apart, as Landries and Cronmiller fed McLean and Roberts, respectively.

Alfred outshot Delhi by a 30-5 margin and earned nine corners.

It's Empire 8 contests from here on out for the Saxons, beginning with a Saturday evening (7:30 p.m.) matchup at home against Hartwick.
