ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University women's tennis team (6-4, Empire 8 4-1) battled nonconference opponent, Medaille College, to a 7-2 victory on the William T. Brown Tennis Courts on Thursday evening.

The Saxons took home wins at #2 and #3 doubles to take momentum into single play where they dominated en route to their sixth win of the season.

Senior Nurila Kambar (Almaty Kazakhstan/Republic Physics and Mathematics School) and sophomore Lauren Boshart (Oswego, NY/Oswego) won 8-5 at #2 doubles while senior Rachel Pera (Kenmore, NY/Kenmore West) paired up with junior Miranda Sakala (Olean, NY/Olean) to win 8-3 at #3 doubles. The Saxons maintained their lead 2-1 heading into singles plays.

Junior Amber Smith (Prattsburgh, NY/Prattsbugh) opened singles play with a 6-3, 7-5 win at #6 singles. Sakala bounced back from her first singles loss of the season on Saturday with a dominant win at #5 singles, 6-1, 6-0. She is currently 6-1 on the year.

Boshart sustained her three-match win-streak with a 6-3, 6-4 win at #3 singles before Kambar added another win at #4 singles, 6-2, 6-4. Finally, senior Inda Gillett (South Kortright, NY/Delaware Academy) earned a win at #2 singles, wrapping up the match 7-6 (8-6), 6-1.

"I'm really proud of how our women played today. Despite the fact that the score was 7-2, it was a really close match and if we look at any of the scores, they were very tight," Head Coach Jordan Crouch said. "I'm really proud of how our team battled and they fought hard. That's going to get us prepared for Fisher this Saturday for Senior Day."

The Saxons remain at home on Saturday when they play host to Empire 8 rival, St. John Fisher College at 12PM.
