ONEONTA, NY – The Alfred University women's tennis team (0-1, 0-0) battled through a rainy day at SUNY Oneonta, falling 0-5 on the road.

The Saxons dropped all three doubles matches to kick off the afternoon. Junior
Amber Smith (Prattsburgh, NY/Prattsburgh) and senior captain,
Rachel Pera (Kenmore, NY/Kenmore West) fought to a 3-8 decision at #3 doubles while junior
Tori Pelligrino (Whiteboro, NY/Whitesboro) and senior captain
Inda Gillet (South Kortright, NY/Delaware Academy) battled to a 1-8 loss at #2 doubles.

Throughout the remainder of the match, the Saxons battled the Red Dragons and weather delays. However, upon resuming play, SUNY Oneonta nabbed two more wins to seal the match, 5-0.

"Our team fought more than just Oneonta today," first-year Head Coach
Jordan Crouch said. "We battled through tough weather and held our heads high the entire time. I'm proud of the way we played and can't wait to build on the performance going forward."

The Saxons return to court on Wednesday to take on Elmira College in the 2018 Empire 8 opener. The match will serve as the women's tennis team's Saxon-For-Saxon event.
