ALFRED, NY – Sophomore Jessica Wilcox (Forestville, NY/Pine Valley) earned two wins in the circle as the Saxons went on to defeat Clarkson University 14-6 (6 innings) and 4-0 in a double header on Harrington Field Monday.

Alfred University (12-6, 2-0 Empire 8) increased its win streak to five against the Golden Knights behind lively bats in back-to-back games. Junior Lu Krawczyk (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) remained hot in the batter's box, accounting for three RBI's and two runs over the course of the two games. She is currently hitting .513 (20-of-39) on the season.

Wilcox earned her first win of the day after making a relief appearance after the Saxons fell behind 4-0 in the opening two innings of the game. Once she entered the game, the AU bats came to life to overtake Clarkson. Wilcox went on to start the next game and shut out the Golden Knights over five innings behind four strikeouts and only one walk.

Game One

The Saxons fell behind early, allowing the Golden Knights to take a 4-0 lead. However, AU bounced back in the bottom of the second when sophomore Jillian Murray (Eden, NY/Eden) reached base on an error and Desiree Luquin (Chula Vista, CA/Otay Ranch) crossed the plate. Luquin returned in the third inning to knot the game 4-4, crushing a three-run homer over the left field fence.

One inning later the Saxons surged for six runs on five hits. Junior Lea Georgatos (Emerson, NJ/Immaculate Conception) notched three RBI's on a two-out hit down the right field line. Junior Becca Alexander (Middletown, DE/Middletown) extended the lead to 11-4 in the fifth, while Clarkson closed the gap to 11-6 in the top of the sixth.

AU put the game away in the bottom of the sixth inning, scoring three runs on three hits. Krawczyk put the game on ice when she notched 2 RBI's on a double with the bases loaded giving AU the win, 14-6.

Murray started the game in the circle allowing four earned runs on five hits. Wilcox earned the win coming out of the bullpen while first year Moreta Dyke (Milesburg, PA/Bald Eagle Area) closed out the game.

Krawczyk and Luquin led the team with three hits each. Krawczyk, Luquin and Georgatos all recorded three RBI's in the game.

Game Two

The Saxons continued their tear in the batter's box, scoring in both the first and second innings for the first game, marking five-straight innings of scoring between the two games. Krawczyk got AU started reaching base safely on a single to left center. She stole second and was advanced to third by Alexander on an attempted sac bunt, that turned into an error that gave Krawczyk the opportunity to sneak home. Alexander earned in RBI in the second inning when she singled to left before moving around the base paths on another miscue from the Golden Knights. AU took a 3-0 lead into the top of the third inning.

The Saxons' final run came in the bottom of the fifth when they loaded the bases. Georgatos ripped a shot that bounced off the Clarkson pitcher and rattled around the infield, giving all AU runners a chance to advance a base, including Alexander who crossed the dish.

Wilcox (6-3) earned her second win of the day throwing five full innings before senior Shannon Schaefer (Westifield, NJ/Westfield) closed out the game with a strikeout and only two hits allowed.

Krawczyk and Alexander led AU with two hits while Alexander and Georgatos had one RBI, each.

"The bats came alive today and that always makes things easier," Head Coach Luke Weneseki said. "I was proud of the girls and each and everyone of them contributed in way way or another. We're looking forward to a couple days of practice this week before two tough conference double headers this weekend. Once again, the pitchers did a wonderful job."

The Saxons return to Empire 8 Conference play on Friday when they travel to Houghton to take on the Highlanders at 3PM.
