ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University women's lacrosse team fell to visiting Keuka College Wednesday afternoon 19-1 at Yunevich Stadium.

The Saxons (0-3, 0-0 Empire 8) got their lone goal from senior midfielder Miranda Gilbert (Watertown, NY/Watertown) just seconds into the second half on a free position shot. Sophomore Allison Hanvey (Camden, NY/Camden) led the team in shot attempts with five including three free position shot attempts. Alfred was accurate in their shooting, putting 6-of-11 shots on net.

Senior goalkeeper Shannon Gray (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) gathered five ground balls to lead the Saxons while first-year defender LeeAnna Bianchi (Hilton, NY/Hilton) had four ground balls. Gilbert and Hanvey chipped in with three ground balls each. Senior defender Sarah Thomann (Saugerties, NY/Saugerties Senior) had three caused turnovers while senior defender Emily MacWilliams (Geneva, NY/Waterloo) had two caused turnovers.

"Scoreboard not a reflection of the goals we put out for the game and the progress that we've made," Head Coach Erin McGaffigan said. "I am very happy with the quality of lacrosse that we brought especially in the first 10 minutes, holding Keuka off. So we're continuing to make progress in certain areas and definitely coming together as a team."

Gray went the distance in net for Alfred, making 12 saves.

The Saxons are next in action this Saturday, March 24, as they open Empire 8 play at home against Elmira College at 1 PM.
