ALFRED, NY  - The Alfred University women's soccer team fell to a tough Stevens Institute of Technology team that is unbeaten (5-0) in the Empire 8. That Saxons (8-5, 2-3 Empire 8) were defeated by a score of 5-1.
 
Stevens got on the board during the 14^thminute to go up 1-0. Minutes later, they would add to their lead at the 21:06 mark on a header over top of the Alfred goalkeeper. The Saxons would get one back during the 37^thminute when Emily Wright (Dallas, TX/Plano West) set up Sierra Wilson (Youngstown, NY/Lewiston-Porter) for a deflection into the net to make it a 2-1 game. That's how the score would stay heading into the half. 
 
The second half was physical for both teams but Stevens was able to convert three more goals, including a penalty shot during the final seconds to go home with the 5-1 victory. 
 
"I thought the team came out today after a tough result in yesterdays game and battled for 90 minutes. I don't think the scoreboard is a good representation of how well the girls played today," Head Coach Craig Yanni said.
 
Wilson and Amanada Guariglia (Valley Stream, NY/Valley Stream South) each had one shot on goal. Makenzie Cashmer (Weedville, PA/Elk County Catholic) had two saves on the day for the Saxons.
 
AU will be on the road at Utica College next Saturday for an Empire 8 contest beginning at 1PM.
