ALFRED, NY – In a battle of unbeaten teams, Alfred University defeated visiting Bard College, 2-0, Saturday night at Yunevich Stadium in the Alfred University Kickoff Classic women's soccer tournament.

With the win, the Saxons improve to 4-0 on the season, while Bard falls to 3-1.

It was a tight game until the 22:35 mark, when sophomore midfielder Emily Wright (Dallas, TX / Plano West) found the top-right corner of the net off a penalty kick to give the Saxons the early 1-0 lead over the Raptors.

With five minutes remaining in the first half first-year defender Kate Christiansen (West Babylon, NY / West Babylon) set up first-year midfielder Amanda Roberts (Amherst, NY / Amherst), who scored off a header to put AU up by two.

Alfred University had the upper hand in shots, 7-4, and also with corner kicks, 7-2.

Junior goalie Sammy Jo Shanahan (Valley Stream, NY / Valley Stream South) earned her second  shutout of the season, making three saves. Chloe Ramos and Kelsey O'Brien each played a half in net for Bard and combined to make three saves.

Alfred plays next on Tuesday, Sept. 13, at 7 p.m. at Owego State.
