ORLANDO, FL – The Alfred University women's lacrosse team fell in their 2016 season debut with a loss to Kenyon College on Tuesday at the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex, 0-15.
Sophomore goalie
Shannon Gray (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) made 10 saves out of the 25 shots on goal (32 shots overall) making it her 10th career game with 10 or more saves.
Freshman
Morgan Timmerman (Cortland, NY/Cortland Junior-Senior) led the game with four ground balls and added one shot while her and fellow freshman
Olivia Cronmiller (Livonia, NY/Livonia) were both 0-for-1 from free position shots. Cronmiller and junior captain
Megan Wendt (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) led the Saxons (0-1, 0-0 Empire 8) in shots with two each. Cronmiller also won three draw controls to lead AU while tying two of her teammates in caused turnovers.
Junior captain
Leah Ellithorpe (Camilius, NY/West Genesee) and senior captain
Kerry Mack (Weedsport, NY/Jordan-Elbridge) each had one of the three caused turnovers to go along with Cronmiller's efforts.
Alfred University managed seven shots during its offensive opportunities and totaled 12 ground balls, three caused turnovers and six draw controls. Kenyon had 32 shots, 19 ground balls and 11 caused turnovers and draw controls while going 3-for-5 on free position shots. Seven of Kenyon's goals were assisted.
The Saxons will next take on Wittenberg on Thursday, March 10 at 10:00 am to round out their Florida stay before returning home for five back-to-back non-conference road games.
