UTICA, NY - The Alfred University women's soccer team went to double overtime against Utica College to ultimately tie, 1-1 in Empire 8 play Saturday afternoon.


The Saxons (7-9-2,1-5-2 E8) opened up the scoring in the 51st minute when first-year midfielder Amanda Roberts (Amherst, NY/ Amherst)
set up first-year defender/ midfielder Kate Christainsen (West Babylon, NY/ West Babylon) for the 1-0 advantage.


The Pioneers quickly scored in the 57th minute when Ciara McIlvenny scored off an assist from Samantha Marko to tie the game up at 1-1.


The Saxons had the advantage in shots, 21-16, while the Pioneers had the advantage in corner kicks, 12-5.


Junior goalie Sammy Jo Shanahan (Valley Stream, NY/ Valley Stream South) played the full 110 minutes and made fives saves. Her counterpart, Jamie Enders, made 12 saves.

The Saxons finish the season 7-9-2 and 1-5-2 in the Empire 8
