HAMBURG, NY—The Alfred University women's soccer team fell to Hilbert College on the road, 3-1, Friday afternoon.

The Saxons were unable to pull out a win on the road Friday afternoon despite putting together a strong offensive showing. In the first half of the game AU ripped six shots, putting four shots on goal. The Hawks mustered three shots on goal in the first period, but sophomore keeper
Sammy Jo Shanahan (Valley Stream, NY/Valley Stream South) turned all three shots away. After the first half the game remained tied, 0-0.

The Hawks were the first team on the board in the second half, scoring in rapid succession in the 65
th and 67
th minutes. Hilbert added one more goal in the 85
th minute.Â

The Saxons attempted to make a come back with a goal by freshman
Emily Wright (Dallas, TX/Plano West) on a free kick. Wright chipped the ball over the defensive wall past the Hawk's keeper for her first goal in her collegiate career. However, time was not on AU's side. As the clock ran out the Saxons trailed 3-1.

Shanahan played all 90 minutes in goal for the Saxons making eight saves.

AU (1-5-1, E8 0-0-0) return home next Wednesday to take on #25 Ithaca College at Yunevich Stadium in Alfred, NY at 6PM.
