The Saxons started the game putting significant pressure onto the Hawks, scoring back-to-back goals to grab a 2-0 advantage. However, the Hawks swung the momentum back scored three times to grab the lead only four minutes later. AU's Mack found Ball for the equalizing goal ten minutes later, following a drought in the scoring.

With 6:12 left in the half, Hartwick's Ashley Werner found the back of the net to grab the lead, 4-3, but senior Button found fellow senior Fry open in front of the net for the goal to tie the game at four with 1:48 to go. In the closing seconds of the half, Button charged toward the goal and grabbed the lead with her second goal of the day. Heading into the intermission, AU carried the lead, 5-4.

The Hawks opened the second half with three unanswered goals in rapid succession to grab a 7-5 lead. Ellithorpe brought the Saxons within one goal after receiving a pass from, but her goal was quickly answered by the Hawks. Three minutes after Hartwick's goal, Button buried her third goal of the day for her second hat trick in as many games.Â

Despite being within striking distance with under ten minutes to go in the game, the Saxons were taken out of the game following three goals by the Hawks. Button scored with eight seconds left in the game, but time ran out before AU could match the deficit. As the final horn sounded, AU trailed 11-8.

Shannon Gray (Rochester, NY/Churchville Chili) played in goal for the Saxons and made 17 saves over sixty minutes.
